A primer is applied after completing your skin care routine and before applying foundation.

Their job is to even out the skin texture by filling the pores, minimizing the wrinkles and smoothening the skin. They help in turning the skin into a smoother and even canvas for your foundation application. It also keeps your makeup intact while looking smooth and flawless all the day.

How To Use a Makeup Primer?

A makeup primer gives an optimum result if applied correctly. Below are the few steps to follow to get the correct application.

  • Before applying the primer, make sure that the skin is clean and all the impurities from the skin has been removed. You can either follow a full Cleansing-Toning-Moisturizing routine or can just swipe a cotton pad saturated with micellar water.
  • If you have an oily skin then try using a quick absorbing moisturizer before applying a primer. Apply it to the skin in circular and upward motion and then wait for 5-10 minutes for it to get fully absorbed in the skin.
  • If you are going out in the day, then a sunscreen is must. Apply a sunscreen and wait for at least 15-20 minutes so that it can sink into the skin. The waiting will ensure that the primer does not disturb your sunscreen and water down its SPF.
  • You don’t need a lot of primer, just a pea sized drop is enough for your face.
  • Using your fingers, dot the primer along your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. With smooth motions, beginning from the centre of the face and working outwards, spread the primer evenly on your skin.
  • If you are only using primer,  without any base, then you are ready to go. But if you intend to wear makeup then you should wait for 5 minutes to let the primer fully settle on the skin. Once the primer settles, finish off with your foundation and the other base applications.

To maintain a healthy skin, moisturizers, exfoliators, day and night creams and a good quality foundation are very important.
